which you are encouraged to use as models! The paper that we reviewed for Lab Assignment #8

when discussing the various sections of the paper.

Required Elements of Paper:

Title page
Abstract (150-250 words) that briefly summarizes the paper and includes main points about the purpose, design/variables, method, major results, and general conclusion. Hint: Write this section last.
Introduction (at least 2-3 pages) that includes an introduction of the topic/problem (that starts out broad), the background literature (summarized with enough detail and connected in a logical way, present limitations), purpose of the study (build an argument for your study), description of the current study (making clear what will be manipulated/measured), and the formal research hypothesis(es) with clear, directional predictions (e.g., “We predicted that the details of the colorful images would be better remembered as compared to those of the black-and-white images”). Things to consider: Why is your study important? What does it add to the current body of knowledge? Is there a gap in the literature that your study attempts to fill? Is your goal to extend previous findings to another population (e.g., Community College students) or by using a different method or approach? Is there contradictory evidence in the literature that can be clarified by your study?
Method that includes a description of the design and variables (operationally defined), participants (age, gender, race means/SDs/frequencies, any exclusionary criteria, sampling procedure/recruitment details, informed consent, compensation), materials/measures (detailed with examples and/or citation of original source), and procedure (with enough detail to replicate, information on condition assignment/counterbalancing if applicable). Also describe data reduction (how were scales/measures scored, what do low and high values represent, any data cleaning/handling of outliers).
Results that include important descriptive statistics/frequencies for all major variables/conditions, proper description of statistical tests (appropriate for testing hypotheses), results of statistical analyses in words and using proper APA format/notation, and reference to a figure.
Discussion (at least two pages) that includes your interpretation/summary of major results (well connected to your hypothesis and the broader problem), explanation of any discrepancy between the results and what was predicted, discussion of how the results relate to previous findings, discussion of strengths and weaknesses/ limitations of your study (in terms of construct, statistical, internal ,and external validity), discussion of importance, implications, practical applications, and future directions.
References (at least five)
Table(s) and Figure(s). Note that each table and figure must be properly formatted with clear labels, headings, and captions, and be referenced in the body of your report. Your final paper must include at least one table and at least one figure in proper APA format. A bar graph (with error bars/confidence intervals) is recommended if you are evaluating the difference between means.
