Technical Writing Proposal Letter: ketogenic diet as a panacea to diabetes and the ultimate

Format: 2-3 page properly formatted formal business memo addressed to me.

Write a memo outlining the idea you are considering for your final project. Please review the award-winning papers on the ECC website and on Canvas for some examples of successful projects.

Your project should address a “real world” topic by answering a question, offering solutions to specific problems, making a case for or against a policy or position, provoking an action or response, advancing research, or advancing the public’s knowledge and understanding of a significant advancement in science or engineering.

Your project may take one of the following forms:

Proposal
Propose a new business, app, or device,
Propose changes to current Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in a workplace (for example, a lab or internship where you have worked).
Feasibility Study
Identify a problem, define the criteria for any successful solution, describe available alternatives, evaluate them, and recommend the best course of action.
Propose a new procedure, a new piece of equipment, etc. to improve a workplace or course with in which you are invested or interested.
User Guide or Operator Manual / How-to or Process Guide

(NOTE: You must have my permission for this type of project.)

Write user instructions for performing a procedure/process or using hardware or software.
Instruct your readers on how to perform a process or procedure, providing step-by-step instructions
Informational Report
Inform your readers about a problem and propose solutions (or evaluate proposed solutions).
Inform your readers about a topic—its history, current status, future possibilities. Emerging technologies make especially good topics for this type of paper.
Scientific Paper
Write a paper summarizing laboratory or other research.

Your letter should include a version of the following purpose statement (note that small variations are permitted, as in the examples below).

Example 1:

I am writing about the need for the NFL to change rules, procedures, and equipment to reduce concussions because head injuries are causing life-long damage to players’ health. My goal is to help my audience of parents, coaches, and players understand how these injuries can be prevented and to persuade my readers to take steps to prevent them. My project will be new and useful because recent research has shed light on how harmful these injuries are and because new technologies offer practical solutions.

Example 2:

I am writing about the impact of Sarbanes-Oxley, Section 404 on IT workload because of the excessive costs and management problems it produced. I want my audience of IT managers to understand how to avoid common pitfalls next year. My message is new and useful because there is little material available that provides practical solutions and I have new insight to offer.

Example 3:

I am writing a proposal to fund the Inspiro Perinatal Asphyxia Rapid Treatment Kits because Perinatal Asphyxia accounts for 11 percent of global child mortality in order to persuade my readers who provide grants to fund the kits. My project will be new and useful because the Inspiro pilot project provides an evidence based, cost effective solution to providing emergency care for infants in settings that lack clinical technology.

Your letter should also address the following, specific details:

What form your project may take (see list above) and any benefits of your proposed approach
The primary audience the final deliverable will help, and how
Any information you have at this stage about the audience (are they real? Fictional? Decision makers? Users? Are they experts? Novices? Positively inclined toward your proposal? Neutral? Hostile? Etc.)
Any secondary or tertiary audiences for the deliverable
Who you are as the writer (Are you a student writing for this class? A consultant? A business owner? A researcher? An engineer? A member of a team? Etc. – Feel free to use your imagination!)
