In today’s world Physical Education has taken a back seat in education. Not having a structured physical education class can allow for students to not care about physical fitness, or have an outlet to relieve energy. Physical Education can be tiered to allow for each student to succeed in their class, even if they are not considered “athletic”. It is our job as teachers to make sure that we are developing well rounded students, this would include physical fitness. Making fitness fun can encourage a lifetime full of great physical activity. Student’s physical activity can play a vital role in their mental health as well.
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this study is to discover an effective way to evaluate students in a Physical Education Class. The study will show different ways to include all students no matter their ability and allow them to succeed.
Does having a structured Physical Education class with grades based on performance make a difference in how students approach the class, and how much effort is put in.
Significance of Study
The study will determine if all students can succeed in Physical Education and participate in all activities. It will allow students to compete with themselves to try to earn a better grade. This means that as teachers we will need to set up a structured physical Education class with benchmarks similar to traditional classes. Each student will need to be able to hit the benchmarks.
Limitations of the Study
Using one class can tend to be less effective. In order to get a good baseline I would need to use multiple classes. When classes are made one class could have all of the “athletic” students, while the other has students who don’t care about physical fitness. This could hinder the results depending on which ratios of students are in the class.
Definition of Terms
Evaluation: The collection of, analysis and interpretation of information about any aspect of a program.
Physical Fitness: is a state of health and well-being and more specifically, the ability to perform aspects of sports, occupations and daily activities.
Organization of the Study:
The study is divided into five chapters. Chapter one introduces the study, its purpose, research question, significance, and limitations, as well as definitions of any terms used during the study. Chapter two will address the current literature, supply and context and support for the study, and give practical applications that can be used in a future classroom. Chapter three talks about the details of how the information for the study was gathered and what kind of survey will be used to gather the data. Chapter four talks about the raw results of the data, how it was taken, and breaks down the trends. Chapter five concludes the study by analyzing the data within the context of the research question, and recommends how to implement it for any future references.
