Week 2 – Time Management and Stress
Prepare a 2-3 page paper that addresses issues in time management and stress for managers and the team they lead. You can complete one of the listed free individual stress tests to learn about yourself and your responses to events in the Assess Your Current Stress Level exercise in the chapter on “Self-Management.”
One of these can be useful for team members and leaders when experiencing challenges in responding to events, as the text defines stress as ‘Stress comes about not from an event, … but from how we respond to it. Stress can be derived from external factors… or an ineffective or inefficient work environment.’ ‘Stress also comes from internal factors such as our emotional state, our perspective on life, or the way we choose to respond to various situations or demands.’
The paper must address the following questions:
What are some time management and stress issues impacting a manager of a team? What can a manager do through emotional intelligence to improve himself/herself and the ability to assess team members response to work place demands and stress?
During stressful times for a team, what might you do as a manager/leader to help minimize stress so that the team does not feel the pressure?
What resources are available from your employer, university, health care providers or reputable online/web services?
What are other reputable services available for dealing with stressful situations?
Utilize insights from course reading and reputable resources, with your experiences, to discuss the questions from a manager’s viewpoint and relationships with the team members. Even if you do not have a team now, everyone can lead and most of you have a leader, therefore you can propose actions from your experiences with leaders and you anticipate your first management or leadership role.
